Protests against Govt repression held across the country

COLOMBO (News 1st); A citizen's decree was issued by the Trade Union Coordination Center and the United People's Movement during a protest march on Tuesday (09).

The citizen's decree, which consists of eight main points, highlights for the immediate cessation of repression and to grant relief to the public.

Religious leaders, trade unions, several organizations and civil society activists initiated the protest march near Vihara Maha Devi Park this afternoon.

They ended the march at Colombo Independence Square.

Trade Unions and Mass Organization Collectives organized a protest against the Government's repressive measures Opposite the Fort Railway Station in Colombo on Tuesday (09).

Duminda Nagamuwa of the Worker's Struggle Center alleged that the All Party Government is being formed by the elite who are coming together against the people of the country, and appealed for the people to not to give up on the Aragalaya protest.

Meanwhile, the Student Union of the University of Kelaniya organized a protest opposite the university premises demanding for the Government to put an end to repressive measures.

The university students marched from the University of Kelaniya to the Colombo - Kandy Main Road and demanded that the government end repression, and implement a proper education system.

Kelum Mudannayake, the Chairman of the Kelaniya University Student's Union said that they will provide the necessary leadership required for the struggle to continue.

One lane on the Kandy - Colombo main road was also obstructed due to the protest.

Protests were held across the country today with the theme of "Stop the supression of the Ranil-Rajapaksa government immediately". 

The Trade Union Coordination Center and the United People's Movement had organized these protests at the provincial level.
