Navy Seizes Fishing Trawler Transporting Drugs

COLOMBO (News 1st): A multi-day fishing trawler taken into Navy custody while transporting narcotics was brought to the Dikowita Fisheries Harbour this morning.

Navy Spokesperson Commander Buddhika Sampath stated that 19 sacks containing narcotics were discovered on board.

The Navy seized the trawler along with 6 suspects during an operation carried out yesterday in the deep seas off the southwestern coast of the island.

Officers of the Police Narcotic Bureau have now commenced investigations to identify the type of narcotics found.
