675 people arrested for fuel hoarding

COLOMBO (News 1st); Police Media Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that 675 suspects have been arrested so far for illegally stockpiling fuel without a license.

He stated that the law will be enforced against the arrested suspects.

Meanwhile, Police said that five locations where fuel was being stored illegally with intent of reselling for higher rates were found in Pallewela, Badulu Oya, Pussakanda and Meegahakiwula areas, which were raided, and a group of suspects were arrested, while one had fled.

Meanwhile, four suspects have been arrested in Kandaketiya for stockpiling on fuel without the relevant permits.

Accordingly, Police have seized 322 liters of Diesel, 53 liters of Petrol and 237 liters of Kerosene, while the suspects were identified as four residents of Kandaketiya and Badulu Oya areas.

Police said that the four suspects were released on bail and after being informed to be present in court on the 29th of June.

Moreover, Police have also arrested a suspect from Manipai for illegal stockpiling of fuel, and seized 630 liters of Diesel.
