Drug Gang Hit Linked to Kahawatte Shooting

COLOMBO (News 1st); A chilling act of violence rocked, where a 22-year-old man was brutally shot dead and another injured in what police suspect is a targeted hit orchestrated by a drug trafficker based in Dubai.

The incident occurred late Monday (30) night, when a group of armed men arrived in a jeep, abducted the two young men from their home, and transported them to a deserted spot on Andana Road. There, the assailants opened fire using a pistol, killing one and seriously injuring the other.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of Palansuriya Gama, while the injured 27-year-old is currently receiving treatment at Kahawatta Hospital.

In response to the shocking crime, four specialized police teams have been deployed to investigate. Authorities have already recorded statements from around 50 individuals, as they work to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.

Preliminary intelligence suggests the attack was masterminded by a drug lord operating out of Dubai, pointing to a disturbing trend of international criminal influence in local violence.
