Curfew from 2 PM (12th) to 6 AM (13th)

Curfew to be imposed at 2 PM & lifted at 6 AM on Friday (13)

COLOMBO (News 1st); The nation-wide curfew that imposed on Monday (9) due to the violent situation that took place in the country was lifted at 7.00 AM today (12) and will be re-imposed at 2 PM.

Curfew will thereafter be in effect until 6 AM on Friday (13).

No person is allowed to be on any public road, railway, public park, public recreation ground or other public ground or the seashore except under the authority of a written permit granted by an authorized officer, during the curfew period.

Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security Major General (Retired) Jagath Alwis told News 1st that the Police Check-points will remain in place until the situation returns to normalcy.

Both Secretary Defence, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) and the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva appealed to the general public to shun violence and remain calm since the armed forces are deployed exclusively to protect all civilians and public property in the country.
