COLOMBO (News 1st); The protest taking place at Galle Face demanding the immediate resignation of the President, Prime Minister, and the entire government is continuing despite inclement weather.
Large crowds were seen gathering at Galle Face to protest against the mismanagement of the country’s economy.
Sunday (24) saw one of the largest protest marches organized by the Inter-University Student’s Federation in Sri Lanka as they marched from the Fort Railway Station to the Occupy Galle Face protest site.
Thousands of Sri Lankan university students mobbed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s home on Sunday demanding his resignation over the island nation’s worsening economic crisis.
Sunday’s protest saw student leaders scale the fence of Rajapaksa’s compound in Colombo after police erected barricades on various roads around the capital to stop them from linking up with demonstrators elsewhere.
Thereafter, they proceed to Galle Face to reach the Occupy Galle Face protest site, where for more than two weeks Sri Lankans have been protesting against the President opposite the President’s Office.
