COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Medicines Regulatory Authority said that the recommendation regarding a price revision for 61 types of medicines will be handed over to the Minister of Health on Monday (25).
The Chairman of the National Medicines Regulatory, Dr. Rasitha Wijewantha said that the Authority would not approve the requests made by medicine importers to increase prices.
The Chairman pointed out that at present 40% to 60% of the medicine prices are controlled by the Gazette.
However, he noted that with the depreciation of the rupee, the prices of medicines have increased by 29%.
Dr. Rasitha Wijewantha further stated that he would NOT agree to the request made by medicine importers to allow prices to float with the depreciation of the rupee.
Relevant recommendations regarding a price revision will be made to the Minister considering the current situation, he added.
