COLOMBO (News 1st); There is no need for the President to resign, says the former Minister of Sports and Youth, MP Namal Rajapaksa.
Speaking to News 1st, the MP said that as there is a necessity to establish the majority in Parliament, if that is fulfilled, there is no need for the President to resign.
Moreover, he stated that there is no need for the people to engage in protests and go to the streets while endangering children and destroying public property, as the President has clearly stated that the majority in Parliament will be given to any party which manages to gain 113 seats within it.
“Both the President and the Prime Minister have clearly stated that any party can gain majority power by graining 113 seats within the Parliament,” he stated.
Meanwhile, speaking further to News 1st, the MP stated that at this time, the parties should keep their differences aside and should get together to calm the people down, as hastening to take decisions with regard to the already agitated people would lead the country down a darker path.
“Sri Lanka has had such a history where politicians took hasty decisions, such as in 1988/1989, therefore it is best to come together and take collective decisions with foresight,” he added.
