Do not accumulate fuel stocks unnecessarily: Energy Ministry

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Energy has requested the public to refrain from accumulating fuel stocks unnecessarily.

Secretary to the Ministry, K.D.R. Olga assured that there are sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel in the country, yet however, she points out that the continuous fuel supply has been hampered due to the people unnecessarily stockpiling the fuel.

Meanwhile, another ship carrying 20,000 metric tons of diesel has arrived at the Port of Colombo, while another ship carrying 37,500 metric tons of petrol has also arrived in the country.

The Ministry of Energy also stated that the Kolonnawa oil storage complex has more than 20,000 metric tons of petrol.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Energy further stated that relevant departments have been instructed to find out whether the closure of certain petrol stations due to fuel shortage is an act of sabotage.

Meanwhile, News 1st correspondents stated that queues are still being seen near petrol stations in Colombo, Anuradhapura, Chilaw, Kandy and many other areas.
