Amber alert regarding low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal, issued

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology has issued an amber advisory with regard to low-pressure area over the bay of Bengal.

The Low-pressure in the South-east Bay of Bengal and the adjoining South Andaman sea is expected to move west-northwestward towards the east coast of Sri Lanka while intensifying further during the next few days, the Meteorological Department says.

Accordingly, there can be very heavy showers or thundershowers, strong winds (40-50) kmph gusting up to 60 kmph associated with rough seas over the aforementioned sea area.

Naval and fishing communities have been advised not to venture into the southeast Bay of Bengal (03S-11N, 84E-93E), until further notice, and fishing and naval communities have been requested to be attentive regarding future forecasts issued in this regard.
