Volunteer Cops from every local division

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Cabinet on Monday (21) approved a proposal made by the Minister of Public Defense to recruit two residents from each Grama Niladhari Division to the Police as voluntary assistants.

According to Cabinet Decisions, those who are permanent residents of the relevant Grama Niladhari Division, over 18 years of age, who have held school leadership positions, and who are members of youth clubs and other voluntary groups will be recruited to the Police as voluntary assistants.

The recruits will work as community assistants in conjunction with Police officers who are already attached to the Grama Niladhari posts from the Police station.

They will be issued a special voluntary identity card and the Cabinet has decided to issue a Certificate of Service on Community Leadership after 6 months of service.
