Expectant mothers with COVID-19 rising

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Health says that there is an increase in the number of pregnant mothers infected with COVID-19.

Director Maternal and Child Health at the Family Health Bureau, Dr. Chitramalee de Silva advised expectant mothers to seek immediate medical attention if they develop flu like symptoms.

She stated that the caseload of infected pregnant mothers has increased from around 100-200 cases to around 400-500 cases at hospitals.

Moreover, Dr. de Silva urged expectant mothers to get vaccinated, including the booster jab, 3 months after taking their 2nd dose.

However, the Director of Maternal and Child Health at the Family Health Bureau said that following the commencement of the vaccination drive, there was a noticeably drop in the number deaths among expectant mothers.

Dr. Chitramali de Silva added that in total, 60 pregnant mothers have died due to COVID 19.
