Experts in the field were manipulated to reverse fertilizer decision: Mahindananda

COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage alleges that certain parties attempted to reverse the decision of the Ministry to implement organic farming via the manipulation of political parties, media outlets, and experts in the field. 

Speaking at an event, the Minister requested farmers to bear the grief of food shortage for two more seasons.

Acknowledging that the implementation of the decision may be difficult, the Minister stated that after several seasons, the process will be seamless. 

The Government's wish is to make Sri Lanka the organic garden of the world, the Minister said, adding that the President took this decision with sincere hope for the betterment of the people, yet his vision and policy were manipulated by certain parties. 

Additionally, Minister Aluthgamage said that the Government hopes to carry on this policy forward after rectifying its mistakes.
