Ex-Prisons Chief in hospital for security reasons, hours after sentenced to death

COLOMBO (News 1st): Former Prisons Commissioner Emil Ranjan Lamahewa who was sentenced to death in the case filed over the 2012 Welikada Prison Massacre has been admitted to the Prisons Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital taking into account the possible threats from other inmates, Prisons Spokesperson Chandana Ekanayake said. Accordingly, Emil Ranjan Lamahewa is currently detained at the Prisons Hospital under the special security of the prisons officials. Former Prisons Commissioner Emil Ranjan Lamahewa was sentenced to death by the Colombo Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar over the 2012 Welikada Prison Massacre after he was found guilty on charges of murder and abduction of an inmate by the name 'Ponda Amila'.
