COLOMBO (News 1st); With the end of the trade union action initiated by the Station Masters' Association on Tuesday (28) afternoon, work at the railway stations resumed as usual from Wednesday (29).
The Station Masters' Union was engaged in a trade union action since the 23rd of December on several issues including not repairing the signal system, putting dilapidated compartments in operation and endangering the lives of passengers.
However, after a discussion with the State Minister Dilum Amunugama, the trade union action initiated by the Station Masters' Association came to an end.
Accordingly, tickets were issued at most of railway stations on Wednesday (29).
All long distance and intercity train services from Kandy Railway Station were operational from this morning, with the News 1st correspondent reporting that the issuance of train tickets was going on as usual.
Meanwhile, the News 1st correspondent at Polgahawela said that more people were arriving at the railway station for long distance travel than usual.
