COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Chief Government Whip & Minister Johnston Fernando has requested the Parliament Speaker to call for a Criminal Investigation into the power outage experienced on Friday (3), during the budget debate.

An island-wide blackout was experienced on Friday (3) affecting the country's transportation services and water supply.

Minister Fernando said it is CEB that is responsible for the supply of electricity to the Parliament, and the power outage needs to be investigated.

He said the maintenance of electricity should not be outsourced, but Parliament should be given the power to ensure that such incidents do not repeat.
