Committee on gas explosions to submit guidelines today

COLOMBO (News 1st); The committee appointed by the President to probe gas explosions has decided to monitor the sites of recent gas leaks, investigate the gas cylinders, fires and explosions and find solutions.

The decision was reached when the committee met at the Moratuwa University last afternoon (01).

A representative of the committee stated that a scientific study on the relevant events would be conducted during the observations.

He also stated that a series of guidelines that is to be followed in the event of a gas leak and to prevent a gas leak will be issued to the public today (02).

A scientific study will also be conducted to determine whether the composition of the gas has been changed, whilst the committee report is scheduled to be submitted to the President within the next two weeks.

Professor Shantha Walpola of the University of Moratuwa is the Chairman of the relevant committee appointed by the President.

In the last three days alone 35 gas explosions were reported from several parts of the country.
