COLOMBO (News 1st); The sea phase of Trincomalee Naval Exercise 2026 (TRINEX-26) commenced off the coast of Trincomalee on July 21, bringing together key assets of the Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Air Force in a large-scale display of maritime operational readiness.
The exercise features the participation of the Sri Lanka Navy's Naval Fleet, the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla, the Special Boat Squadron, the Sri Lanka Navy Marines and the Sri Lanka Air Force, in a coordinated approach to enhancing joint operational capabilities and maritime security preparedness.
On the opening day of the exercise, participating units carried out a series of operational drills designed to strengthen readiness and interoperability.
These included Miscellaneous Exercises (MISCEX), Surface Firing Exercises (SURFEX), Screening Exercises (SCREENEX), Gunnery Exercises (GUNEX) and Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP) operations.
The exercise programme included a wide range of additional naval operations and emergency response drills, including Search and Rescue Exercises (SAREX), Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC) drills, Replenishment at Sea (RAS), Towing Exercises, Flashing Exercises (FLASHEX) and anchoring exercises.
TRINEX-26 also serves as a valuable training platform for officers and sailors undergoing professional development.
