Anura reveals about 'organic revolution'; the fertilizer failure

COLOMBO (News 1st); The organic revolution which the Government attempted to do has turned itself into a failure leaving people wondering whether it is a farce, says JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The JVP Leader speaking at the Parliament yesterday (26) stated that the responsibility for the fertilizer fiasco should be borne by the Secretary to the President, P.B. Jayasundera. Inquiring as to who issued the letters of credit without sample testing the fertilizer which has now proven to contain the harmful bacteria 'Erwinia', the JVP Leader also stated that if the private sector was running a fertilizer mafia, the Government has become its agents. Speaking further, Dissanayake stated that now it had come to a point where the Government has to pay 9 million USD as compensation, however if the relevant authority who issued the letter of credit was revealed, the funds can be saved, as only the political authority which issued the order will have to pay for the compensation. Pointing out that the People's Bank cannot open foreign currency accounts, the JVP Leader stated that the Manager of the Town Hall People's Bank branch has revealed to the CID that Presidential Secretay P.B. Jayasundera issued the orders to open a bank account, to which funds were deposited to import the nano nitrogen fertilizer from India. Moreover, the JVP Leader alleged that P.B. Jayasundera is not the owner of the treasury of this country, and further revealed that Jayasundera had called People's Bank twice to open this relevant account, and subsequently, Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage did as well. Revealing further details, the JVP Leader said that the account was opened at early morning on 18th, and the Cabinet approval for importing the fertilizer was granted at evening on the same day. He also added that although only Rs. 300,000 was spent to purchase the nano nitrogen fertilizer, Rs, 800,000 was deposited to the account from the Treasury on the very same day. " Now you have been asking, who is behind this is the fertilizer mafia? it is the fertilizer businessmen, of course. In fact, honorable MPs, the Government is behind this. This organic revolution ended with the pockets of a number of ministers being fattened with funds, along with the pockets of a number of officials.
