COLOMBO (News 1st); We are placing our faith in the public to be smart and cautious when we are relaxing the imposed COVID-19 restrictions, says the Minister of Health Keheliya Rambuwella. The Minister of Health, speaking to media stated that the Health Ministry is planning to relax restrictions on weddings, restaurants, hotel visits, and also event management activities as these sectors were heavily hampered in the recent past. Speaking further, the Health Minister also stated that he is requesting the public not to exploit these relaxations granted unto them, as doing so would result in tighter restrictions being imposed once again. " That would not only put restrictions on the people's freedom but it will also have adverse effects on the economy," he added. Meanwhile, the Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said that he earnestly request the public to not to misuse the relaxations imposed as there is a certain degree of risk involved when the Ministry of Health relaxes the restrictions. " We do not want the public to undertake additional risks that might result in adverse health effects. We were previously accused of not locking down the country early enough. We have the risk of facing the same accusations once again," the Deputy Director General of Health Services mentioned.
