COLOMBO (News 1st); If there is a real fuel shortage, the fuel in tanks will be drained, therefore there is no real fuel shortage in the country, says Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila.
Speaking at the Parliament today (20), the Minister said that the current economic crisis is an issue which was long time in the making, and could have happened at any time.
Furthermore, the Minister said that a gas station usually has enough fuel for two or three days, and when the whole country attempts to purchase fuel, automatically a fuel shortage is created at petrol stations.
However, he said that a real fuel shortage is created when the bowsers which deliver fuel are turned around from the supply tanks, which then becomes an entirely separate issue.
Minister Gammanpila added that the Government is confident in ensuring an uninterrupted supply of fuel at a time of global economic instability.
