COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Navy said the body of the missing Indian fisherman who was in the Indian poaching vessel sunken northwest of the Kovilan Lighthouse in Sri Lankan waters, was discovered on Wednesday (20).

Navy diving teams carried out an underwater diving inspection at the sunken fishing vessel in search of the missing fishermen, on Tuesday (19).

An Indian naval ship was also seen searching for the missing fisherman in Indian waters.

The two Indian fishermen (02) who were rescued from the unfortunate incident were brought ashore by the Sri Lanka Navy on the night of 18th October and they were handed over to the Kayts Police in Jaffna for onward legal action.

SLN units on patrol were engaged in chasing away Indian fishing trawlers poaching in Sri Lankan waters via the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL), in the evening of 18th October.

As the said task was being put into practice, one of the Indian fishing trawlers, with aggressive maneuvers, in resistance of chase away, was on an attempt to evade from the scene making it collided with SLN Craft in operation.

In the process, it ultimately descended having lost its stability as well as due to the rough sea condition.

The search and rescue operation was augmented by a team of Navy divers, Fast Attack Craft and Inshore Patrol Craft.

As one of the SLN Fast Attack Crafts was damaged in the collision it has been brought to the Kankesanthurai harbor for repairs.

According to Indian media reports, the fishermen hailed from Kottaipattinam in Puthukottai district of Tamil Nadu.

According to official sources, Rajkiran (30), Suganthan (23) and Arockia Xavier (32) of Kottaipattinam had ventured into the sea on Monday (18), reported The Hindu.
