Nearly 10,000 children with comorbidities vaccinated

COLOMBO (News 1st); Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. G. Wijesuriya says that nearly 10,000 children with comorbidities over the age of 12 have been vaccinated so far. Speaking to News 1st, Dr. G. Wijesuriya said that the vaccination program for these children will continue, adding they estimate there are around 30,000 children in total with comorbidities that need to be vaccinated. He also said that the Pfizer vaccine will be given to the 19 year olds next week, based on the recommendations of the vaccines committee and as directed by the President. He added that a program to vaccinate University students, age 20 and over, will also commence from next week. Moreover, the Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Wijesuriya says that attention has been given towards providing a third dose to Sri Lankans before the end of this year. He also said that authorities were looking into providing a Pfizer booster dose to citizens over 30 as well. He added that the number of COVID-19 infected children being reported has reduced drastically.
