Banks asked to release USD for students going abroad for higher education - Governor

COLOMBO (News 1st); Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal announced that instructions were given to all banks to release US Dollars for students traveling overseas for their higher education.

Addressing a forum organized by the President's Media Center on Thursday (7) parents had raised concerns over making payments to overseas universities for their children's higher education.

"In order to avoid an inconvenience, we have instructed all the banks to release those funds," said the Central Bank Governor adding if there are issues relating to these matters, they should be referred to the Central Bank where it would be addressed.
