Heavy Showers Expected Across Several Provinces; Landslide Warnings Issued

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Rain or thundershowers are expected at several locations across most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m. today.

Fairly heavy showers exceeding 75 millimetres may occur at some locations in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, Southern, Uva, North Western and North Central Provinces.

General public has been requested to take necessary precautions to minimise the risk of accidents caused by temporary strong winds and lightning accompanying thundershowers.

Misty conditions may prevail in some areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces during the early morning hours.

Meanwhile, the National Building Research Organisation has issued landslide early warnings for several districts amid the prevailing rainy weather.

The warnings have been issued for Kandy, Kegalle, Matale and Ratnapura districts.

Level Two landslide warnings have been issued for the Ududumbara and Minipe Divisional Secretariat Divisions in Kandy District, the Dehiowita Divisional Secretariat Division in Kegalle District, and the Ambanganga Korale and Matale Divisional Secretariat Divisions in Matale District.

Level One landslide early warnings have been issued for the Rambukkana Divisional Secretariat Division in Kegalle District, the Rattota Divisional Secretariat Division in Matale District, and the Eheliyagoda Divisional Secretariat Division in Ratnapura District.
