First ever national agriculture policy formulated in SL

COLOMBO (News 1st);  The Ministry of Agriculture says the National Agriculture Policy will be presented to the Cabinet next week. Secretary to the Agriculture Ministry, Prof. Uditha K. Jayasinghe said the policy was formulated by a panel of experts following an extensive study. Speaking to News 1st, he said the National Agriculture Policy is prepared jointly on 10 different sectors by taking the public's opinion also into consideration. According to Prof. Jayasinghe, this is the first new National Agriculture Policy prepared by experts after 1948. He said, "Once this national policy is issued, no one will be able to take individual decisions." Prof. Jayasinghe said both the National Agriculture Policy and the Overarching Agricultural Policy will be presented to the Subject Minister on Monday (04), so it can be submitted to the Cabinet.
