Opposition Submits No-Confidence Motion Against Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne

COLOMBO (News 1st): A no-confidence motion brought by the Opposition against Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne has been handed over to the Secretary General of Parliament, Kushani Rohanadeera.

It was submitted with the signatures of 44 Members of Parliament.

The no-confidence motion brings 50 allegations against the Speaker.

The Opposition states that the motion was brought on the grounds that the Speaker is unfit for the post due to his partisan and undemocratic conduct in handling parliamentary affairs.

This was attended by a group of MPs, including Deputy Opposition Chief Whip Ajith P. Perera, Leader of the Tamil Progressive Alliance Mano Ganesan, General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Nizam Kariapper, and New Democratic Front MPs Ravi Karunanayake, Dilip Wedaarachchi, Chaminda Wijesiri, and Varuna Liyanage.
