Final Decision on essential goods price revision, today

COLOMBO (News 1st); A final decision regarding the price revision of five essential commodities including Milk Powder will be reached at today's Cabinet meeting. State Minister of Co-operative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection, Lasantha Alagiyawanna said the Cost of Living Committee, which is a sub-committee appointed by the Cabinet, met under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to discuss the shortage of essential goods in the local market at present and the sale of goods at exorbitant prices. He said requests submitted by several companies to increase the prices of certain commodities, taking into account the impact of increasing global prices, were also discussed. The proposals submitted by the Pricing and Management Committee of the Consumer Affairs Authority were also taken up for discussion at the Cost of Living Committee. State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said a final decision will be reached at today's cabinet meeting.
