Multiple passengers detained for smuggling restricted goods

COLOMBO (News 1st); Airport Customs detained 29 passengers who made a short trip to Indian and back, for the possession of a large number of restricted goods.

472 kg of Tumeric and over 350 kg of Cardamom were seized from the possession of the passengers.

The value of the seized goods is over Rs. 4 million, said Sri Lanka Customs.

Investigations have revealed that individuals are making short trips to India and back, under the guise of travelers to move restricted items into the country by concealing them in their luggage.
