Imported organic fertilizer does not contain pathogenic microorganisms

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Agriculture assures that the organic nitrogen fertilizers imported by the government do not contain pathogenic microorganisms that are harmful to animals, plants, and humans.

The ministry said in a statement that reports in some media, including on social media, that such microbes exist were false.

A statement noted that the organic fertilizer is imported only from internationally certified companies for the production of organic fertilizers.

The Ministry of Agriculture states that the relevant International Organic Fertilizer Production Certificate should be obtained for each of these types of fertilizers and that fertilizer will be imported to Sri Lanka only from companies that have obtained ISO certification to confirm the method of fertilizer production.

Therefore, the Ministry of Agriculture urges the public not to have any fear over the use of imported organic fertilizers.
