COLOMBO (News 1st); The University of Peradeniya has developed a test kit as an interim testing method to detect COVID-19 patients, in addition to the use of RAT & PCR.
The test kit was designed by a team led by Senior Lecturer Ruchika Fernando of the University of Peradeniya.
According to the Ministry of Health, the test kit is an efficient and low-cost method to detect COVID-19 cases.
The investors claim that for a small cost of Rs. 1500/-, a COVID-19 test can be performed with this kit which has already been approved by the National Medicines Regulatory Authority.
The test kit is pending local and international “RT-LAMP (Reverse Transcription Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification)” approvals.
The new testing kit was introduced to Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella by a group including the Peradeniya University Vice-Chancellor Professor M.D. Lamawansa.
