Rice & Sugar sold at unfair prices in the local market, admits State Minister

COLOMBO (News 1st): Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Minister of State for Consumer Protection says that the whole world is facing a major financial and economic crisis due to this epidemic.

” I know, especially sugar and rice were sold unfairly in the market. The President issued a special gazette notification with the primary objective of protecting consumers due to this. According to the gazette notification, from today, sugar seized from unregistered sugar stores will be handed over to the Co-operatives, including Sathosa.” He said.

The State Minister added that sugar will be offered to other supermarkets and general businesses at reasonable prices in the coming days as well.

“Do not forget that the whole world is facing a major financial crisis as well as an economic crisis as well as an increase in commodity prices with the pandemic” He added.
