COLOMBO (news 1st): 'The entire pandemic is a battle between the vaccine and the virus, and we must all get vaccinated in order to ensure that death rate stays low', said  Consultant Virologist at the Department of Virology at the Medical Research Institute, Dr. Nadeeka Janage.

During a press conference held on Wednesday (11), The Health Promotion Bureau emphasized the Delta variant of the virus has a higher concentration rate of spreading.

"We usually consider a person fully immunized two weeks after being fully vaccinated. However, the delta variant of the virus works in such a way that it takes around three days to act on its host, rather than five to seven days as the previous normal variant did. This means that the virus can act upon our body faster than even the vaccine can work on us. This is why it is important to still abide by health regulations." Dr. Janage said.

Officials at the Health Promotions Bureau stated that the virus can easily replicate itself even on fully vaccinated persons and can act upon its host within a period of three days.

"It is easy to abide by health regulations at the workplace, unlike public transport." Dr. Janage added.

He further mentioned that all individuals must eat their food and drink alone, even at their workplace as the removal of the mask is necessary when eating and drinking.

Moreover, he instructed those who are housing an infected person or a person showing symptoms of COVID-19 to ensure that the virus does not spread to other inhabitants of the house as well, and to sanitize any rooms used by the infected person.

The officials further instructed for inhabitants of such houses to stay far away from such persons at least for 10 days, and to wear masks at home.
