Lionel Messi finally has his trophy.

Argentina captured their first Copa America title since 1993 with a 1-0 win over Brazil at Maracana Stadium, and in doing so, Messi earned his first major international trophy for his country at the age of 34.

Angel Di Maria scored in the 22nd minute to give Argentina the early lead in the first half while Brazil had a goal called back because of an offside call.

Neymar, Messi’s former teammate in Barcelona, will have to wait for his first Copa America title as he was sidelined with an injury when Brazil won in 2019.

Both Argentina and Brazil were unbeaten heading into Saturday and were meeting for the fifth time in a tournament final in their 84-year rivalry. With the win, Argentina matched Uruguay’s record with 15 continental titles.
