COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police arrested 563 people for violating the Quarantine Regulations on Friday (02), said Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana.
The Ratnpura Division arrested 77 people while the Matara Division arrested 66 people, he said.
46,823 people have been arrested in total since October 2020 for violating the quarantine regulations, he added.
Sri Lanka Police are manning 14 road blocks at the entry and exit points of the Western Province and on Friday (02) 5,229 people were checked and 144 of them were ordered to return back to their original locations as they failed to provide justifiable reasons to cross the provincial border.
In addition, the Nuwara Eliya Police arrested 15 people for illegally gathering at the office of a private insurance company for a meeting on Friday (02).
The suspect were enlarged on bail and were ordered to appear in court on the 26th of July.
Health Officials have ordered them to undergo quarantine and following the completion of the quarantine period the suspect will be charged under the provisions of the Penal Code and the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance.
