Local agent representative granted bail in X-Press Pearl case

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Deputy General Manager of Sea Consortium Lanka (Pvt) Ltd (Local Agent for X-Press Pearl) Sanjeewa Samaranayake who was arrested and produced in court by the Criminal Investigations Department was released on strict bail conditions by the Colombo Chief High Court Judge Damith Thotawatte.

Samaranayake was barred from traveling overseas and was ordered to place a cash bond of Rs. 100,000/- and two person bails of Rs. 01 million each.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) produced the suspect in court as suspect number 05 in the investigations taking place with regard to the fire on board the X-Press Pear container ship, under the Marine Pollution Prevention Act and the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance.
