COLOMBO (News 1st) - An Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) fuel tanker arrived at the Port of Colombo this morning.
Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), D.A. Rajakaruna, confirmed that the vessel is carrying 18,000 metric tonnes of diesel and 18,000 metric tonnes of 92-octane petrol.
The fuel shipment was arranged following a recent diplomatic telephone conversation between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
High-level diplomatic engagement between India and Sri Lanka has taken place in a bid to address ongoing fuel supply challenges.
Accordingly, the IndianOil Corporation has decided to dispatch a fuel vessel to Lanka IOC.
Meanwhile, a total of 10 fuel shipments are expected to reach the island within the coming month.
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation said that diesel stocks are sufficient until mid-April, while supplies of 92 and 95 octane petrol have been secured through to June.
