COLOMBO (News 1st); Legal action will be taken via the Consumer Affairs Authority against all mobile vendors who sell vegetables and fruits at exorbitant prices, said Minister Namal Rajapaksa on Friday (18).
The Presidential Task Force to achieve the goals set by the government through the “Gama Samaga Pilisandara” (Discussion with the Village) program during its meeting at Temple Trees decided to make it mandatory for all mobile vendors to display an updated price list of their products.
In addition, Minister Namal Rajapaksa had instructed officials to prepare a mechanism where the people can purchase vegetables and fruits at reasonable prices from Sathosa and Cooperative outlets.
Further, it was proposed to establish small economic centers in key cities to allow the people to make purchases at reasonable prices.
The meeting was also based on exploring the possibility of using information technology-based systems to control the prices of vegetables and fruits and for a streamlined distribution process.
