COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Hospital of Nephrology (Kidney Disease) in Polonnaruwa, which is the biggest Nephrology Hospital in South Asia, will be declared open on Friday (Jun. 11) under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The newly constructed National Hospital of Nephrology in Polonnaruwa with a capacity of 200 beds, also consists of 100 transfusion beds, five state-of-the-art operating theaters, and two Intensive Care Units. The hospital was constructed as a donation of the Chinese government as per a request made by then-President Maithripala Sirisena, during a visit to China in 2015. Former President Maithripala Sirisena on Friday (Jun. 11) said he was content about the opening of the China - Sri Lanka Friendship Nephrology Hospital in Polonnaruwa. "During my visit to China in 2015, I requested Chinese President Xi Jinping and the hospital was constructed on funds worth Rs. 12 billion as a gift from the Chinese government. The condition of the CKD patients in our country is very disheartening, and this hospital will bring great relief to them," the Former President told News 1st. The National Hospital of Nephrology will be declared open at 10:00 AM today (Jun. 11).
