COLOMBO (News 1st): The Joint Health Workers Union conducted a 04-hour strike from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon, across five major hospitals including the Colombo National Hospital citing several demands on Thursday (Jun. 03).

According to our correspondents, activities at hospitals were severely hampered as a result of the trade union action.
Among the issues cited by the Health Trade Unions were:
- The confirmation of permanent employment for those who are on a contract basis
- The failure to provide the COVID-19 risk-benefit
- The failure to properly provide protective gear for transportation and inoculation of COVID patients
