COLOMBO (News 1st): The Joint Health Workers Union conducted a 04-hour strike from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon, across five major hospitals including the Colombo National Hospital citing several demands on Thursday (Jun. 03).
News 1st’s Senitha Senanayake spoke to Namal Jayasinghe, the President of the Health Management Officers’ Union, to understand the reasons behind this strike…
According to our correspondents, activities at hospitals were severely hampered as a result of the trade union action.
Among the issues cited by the Health Trade Unions were:
– The confirmation of permanent employment for those who are on a contract basis
– The failure to provide the COVID-19 risk-benefit
– The failure to properly provide protective gear for transportation and inoculation of COVID patients
