PCR testing at maximum capacity; State Minister

COLOMBO (News 1st); PCR tests are taking place at maximum capacity despite a delay, said State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle on Monday (10).

"There is a delay due to a high volume of PCR samples received by laboratories for testing," the State Minister told News 1st.

Dr. Hemantha Herath from the Disaster Preparedness and Response Division (DPRD) attached to the Ministry of Health said the surge in COVID-19 cases was caused by a delay in PCR testing.

However, he said a possible reduction in COVID-19 cases cannot be ruled out.
