COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Programme to provide five (05) Turmeric Plants free of charge, for every house commenced on Saturday (May 01), the Department of Export Agriculture (DEA) said.

Under the first phase of the programme, 7.5 million Turmeric plants will be distributed across the island, Upul Ranaweera, the Director (Development) at the Department of Export Agriculture (DEA) told News 1st.

“The main aim of this initiative is to fulfill the domestic requirement of Turmeric in the country to a greater extent. We also hope to provide the knowledge on how to produce Turmeric powder at the time of harvesting,” Upul Ranaweera elaborated.

This National Programme will be conducted through the District Offices of the Department of Export Agriculture (DEA) covering all Grama Niladhari Divisions of the country.
