New COVID variant similar to virus spreading in Kent, UK; Prof. Channa

COLOMBO (News 1st): The new COVID-19 variant which is spreading across Sri Lanka can be considered as similar to the variant which is spreading in Kent in the UK, said Professor Channa Jayasumana, Sri Lanka's State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals.

"The new variant will be identified within the next few days," he said while noting that it will take several more details to determine the gene positioning of the virus.
