COLOMBO (News 1st): The Presidential Media Division (PMD) states that it has been decided to establish a monitoring unit under the leadership of the tri-forces for dengue control.

This decision was made during a discussion held yesterday at the Presidential Secretariat, co-chaired by the Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, and the Secretary to the President, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.

During the meeting, it was also decided to tighten legal actions and further strengthen dengue control efforts through the Community Strength and Public Security Committees currently established at the regional level.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Media Division mentioned that a decision was made during the discussion to implement another three-day dengue control program starting tomorrow.

This program will be implemented, covering 600 Grama Niladhari divisions.

The Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, noted that the public has still not adequately adapted to dengue prevention measures.

Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Specialist Dr. Anil Jasinghe, states that a special ground-level program is being prepared for dengue control.

The Secretary stated that arrangements have been made to hold a special discussion today with Provincial Directors of Health Services and Regional Directors of Health Services regarding this matter.

Meanwhile, the number of dengue cases reported in the country has risen to 47,179.

The number of dengue-related deaths reported so far this year stands at 28.

The National Dengue Control Unit mentioned that 112 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions have been identified as high-risk dengue areas at present.

The dengue disease is spreading rapidly in the Matara, Galle, and Ratnapura districts, as well as in the Panadura MOH division of the Kalutara district and the Biyagama MOH division of the Gampaha district.

The National Dengue Control Unit further stated that this indicates a clear increase compared to the years 2024 and 2025.

Meanwhile, the dengue control program organized by Sirasa FM under the theme "Let's Win, Let's Defeat Dengue", covering 1000 houses across 10 towns over 10 days, continues for its 4th consecutive day today.
