Sand Transportation to be restricted during daytime

COLOMBO (News 1st): Measures will be taken to stop the transportation of sand in the daytime, the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau said. Under the 1st phase of the initiative, the restrictions on the transportation of sand during the daytime will be imposed within the city limits, Anura Walpola, the Chairman of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau told News 1st. According to the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau, the final decision in this regard will be made next week. This step is being implemented taking into account the road accidents and obstructions to vehicular movement caused as a result of trucks transporting sand. Although measures were taken earlier to stop the transportation of sand during the night, this initiative is not implemented properly.
