Colombo (News 1st); The Terrorist Investigations Division arrested two people for propagating Wahhabism and Extremism among the Sri Lankan communities, said Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana.
"The suspects were identified as a 28-year-old male and a 29-year-old male from Kattankudy," said the Deputy Police Chief. Investigations revealed the suspects were deported from Qatar on the 21st of November 2020 and 04 others were deported along with them. "All six were arrested by the TID as of today, and these two suspects were the last to be arrested from that group," said DIG Ajith Rohana. The suspects had created a WhatsApp group when they were in Qatar and spread fake and provocative material via that group, said the Police Spokesperson. According to Sri Lanka Police, this group had maintained online networks and released the video footage of the oath of Zaharan Hashim and other videos. All the suspects were detained by the Terrorist Investigation Division under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
