April Attacks: AG appoints legal team to consult on investigations

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Attorney-General has appointed a team of 12 lawyers to consult on the investigations into the 2019 April 21st attacks, Rear Admiral (Retd.) Dr. Sarath Weerasekara, the Minister of Public Security said. "Investigations into the 2019 April 21st Attacks are still ongoing; several extremists in connection with the series of attacks were arrested a few days back," the Minister told reporters. According to Minister Weerasekara, Sri Lanka Police concluded its observations into the 2019 April 21st attacks and had already handed over the case files of all eight attacks to the Attorney-General. Moreover, the final report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the 2019 April 21st Attacks was also submitted to the Attorney-General, and thereby, he had appointed a team of 12 lawyers to consult on the matter, Minister Weerasekara noted. Whilst pointing out that arrests in connection to the incident are still being made since the investigations are continuing, Minister Sarath Weerasekara was hopeful that legal action could be instituted against those responsible in the coming days.
