COVID-19 Vaccination at High-Risk GN Division from Tomorrow (26)

COLOMBO (News 1st): The COVID-19 inoculation drive targeting Grama Niladhari Divisions at high-risk will commence tomorrow, the State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control said. "The COVID-19 vaccination drive in the Colombo Urban Council area will continue; starting tomorrow (26), the vaccination targeting high-risk GN Divisions of Gampaha district will also begin," Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle, the State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control told News 1st on Thursday (Feb. 25). The high-risk Grama Niladhari Divisions were selected based on the rate of patients reported in the last two-to-three weeks, she noted. According to Dr. Fernandopulle, the Ministry of Health has instructed to administer the vaccine to those aged above 60-years in the prioritized GN divisions; however, based on the decision reached by the COVID-19 Task Force it was decided the vaccine will be administered to those between 30-60 years. Thereby, State Minister Sudarshini Fernandopulle emphasized that the COVID-19 jab will be administered to those between 30-60 years are the inoculation centres. According to State Minister Fernandopulle, another consignment of 500,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines ordered from India will arrive in the country today (Feb. 25). Of the first consignment of vaccines obtained from India on 28th January, more than 360,000 people have received the 1st dose of the jab. Another 116,907 vaccines are left, according to health authorities.
