Parliamentarians to receive the COVID-19 jab from tomorrow

Colombo (News 1st): Members of Parliament are to be inoculated with the COVID-19 vaccine beginning tomorrow. The Serjeant-at-Arms of the Sri Lanka Parliament - Narendra Fernando, stated that Members of Parliament would be vaccinated with the Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine over 4 days from tomorrow onwards. The vaccination drive is set to take place at the Army Hospital in Narahenpita. Minister C.B. Ratnayake was the first Minister to be vaccinated. Secretary to the State Ministery of Health Services Epidemiology and COVID Disease Control Specialist Dr. Amal Harsha de Silva, speaking earlier today said that the authorities were hopeful of receiving 3 million doses of the vaccine by the end of the month. He further added that discussions were underway to permit the usage of the Russian-made Sputnik vaccine as well.
