COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court today ordered that the trial against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda over corruption-related allegations commence on November 23.

The order was made when the case was taken up before High Court Judge Ravindra Premaratne, who concluded the pre-trial conference and fixed November 23 as the date for the commencement of the trial.

According to the indictment, Wasantha Karannagoda is accused of causing a loss to the State by allegedly facilitating an opportunity for Yoshitha Rajapaksa to attend a course at the Royal Navy Training College in the United Kingdom while serving as Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy between September 1, 2006 and June 8, 2007.

Separate indictments have been filed against Yoshitha Rajapaksa on allegations that he obtained an undue benefit as a result of the said arrangement.
